The candle is a living light. It has to be cared for and as an open fire always to be observed. How long do candles have to burn to get a efficient flame cleaning? At least until the burn bowl is filled from side to side with molten wax. It has to be taken note of the fact that candles being lighted the first time, need more time to fill the burn bowl with molten wax. How long is the burning time of Schulthess swiss candle design candles until the wax is molten from side to side? Diameter 40 mm: approx. 1.5 hours Diameter 50 mm: approx. 2.5 hours Diameter 70 mm: approx. 4.5 hours What has to be respected by burning down a candle? Cut down the wick to approx. 1 - 1.5 cm. Do not put the burning candles too close one below the other or side by side. Candles do not tolerate draught. It makes them smoke, drop and burn down one-sided. Candles are jittering heavily or smoking The wick is too long and has to be cut back. Eliminate eventual draught. If the brim is too high, the candle suffers of oxygen deficiency. That is why the brim of the candle should be cut back with a knife in warm condition. The candle does not burn well and has no flame The wick is too thin or cut back too short. A part of the molten wax in the burn bowl has to be poured out. The candle burns down one-sided, the molten wax is leaking out Eliminate draught. The wick is bending strongly to one side. Put up the wick with a metallic object. If several candles burn in a group, they need a distance of minimally 2 cm not to melt down. If the molten wax is leaking out, extinguish the candle and cut back the sides to the same level to get an even burn bowl. Debris (match, remains of the wick) in the burn bowl The debris contaminates the wax and blocks the wick which is impaired in his absorbency. The debris develops to a second wick. The burning force of the wick is supported and the candle can burn down too fast, leak out and become a danger. How do I extinguish a candle optimally? Drown the burning wick with a metallic object in the molten wax, extinguish and put up again immediately. This prevents the wick from afterglowing, provides it with wax and impedes the wick to perish. Which is the most important rule? Never burn down a candle unattended. Always put candles in a fireproof candleholder.
